Nordic Naturals raises the bar on freshness and purity of cod liver oil.

Over the past 10 years we have learned three exceptional ways to ensure that our fish oil is always the freshest available.

The first, is by working with smaller boats and independent fishermen rather than larger trawling vessels that spend much longer at sea. We have built a direct relationship with these fishermen over the years in order to ensure optimal raw and sustainable material quality. Since it is our mission to operate in an environmentally responsible manner, we only work with fishermen who utilize 100% of the Arctic cod for either human or animal consumption.

Secondly, is the use of nitrogen to minimize oxidation at every stage of manufacturing, beginning right on the boat. The importance of this cannot be overstated. Only by using nitrogen, can we protect the oil from decomposition.

Finally, since our manufacturing facility is located right next to the harbor, transportation time is minimized. This means that a few short hours after being caught, the Arctic cod are delivered whole into our plant for immediate processing. Thanks to the short amount of time from catch to processing, as well as the processing method itself, we have been able to improve the freshness of our fish oil even more.

We have raised the bar on fish oil freshness once again. On average, our manufacturing process now delivers an anisidine value (AV) between 1 and 2, when most raw oils test between 12 and 20. The lower this number, the fresher the fish oil. Our third-party tests show that this low level of 1 to 2 AV is further reduced during our gentle refining process, which uses minimal heat and preserves the natural constituents of the oil.

From now on, only our new “Gold Standard” Arctic Cod Liver Oil will be used for all of Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil products. You will find the oil extremely pleasant in taste and composition—take it alone or blend with food. Incredibly, preliminary studies show that our new oil may be resistant to heat for an extended period of time. We expect further studies to prove that the oil can be incorporated into breads, pizza crusts and baking goods at temperatures up to 350°F over a 30- minute period.
