Current research has clarified the necessity of essential fatty acids (EFAs) for optimal development and function of the brain in the general population. EFAs are now a component of the most recently revised Food Pyramid. Specific to Autism Spectrum Disorders, current research consistently reveals very low levels of EFAs in children diagnosed with this condition.
